วันหนึ่งขณะเดินกับเพื่อน ก็บังเอิญมาเจอแฮรี่เข้า เราเริ่มทักทายตามประสาคนรู้จัก

- Hi, Harry. How are you? {ไฮ แฮหรี่ ฮาวอ๊าร์หยู่}
- Hi, Tony. I’m fine. And you? {ไฮ โทหนี่ อัมฟายน์ แอ่นดิ้ว}

แล้วเราจะปล่อยเพื่อนที่มาด้วยยืนเงอะงะตาปริบๆ อยู่ได้อย่างไร อย่าให้ฝรั่งเป็นฝ่ายเริ่มแนะนำตัวกับเพื่อนเรา เพราะมันดูไม่ค่อยดี เราต้องเริ่มแนะนำเอง ในฐานะที่เป็นคนที่รู้จักคนทั้งคู่ วิธีแนะนำเพื่อนให้รู้จักกันก็ง่ายสุด ๆ ไม่ต้องยุ่งยากขนาด Let me introduce… ขอแนะนำคนโน้นคนนี้ให้รู้จักหรอก เอาสั้น ๆ แต่ได้เรื่องไว้ก่อนตามนี้เลย

แล้วทั้งสองคนก็จะจับมือทักทายกัน แค่นี้แหละ พอแล้ว
ถ้าอยากจะให้ข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับเพื่อนเพิ่มเติมก็อาจบอกว่า Pete is my colleague. พีทเป็นเพื่อนร่วมงาน หรือ Pete is my room-mate. พีทเป็นเพื่อนร่วมห้องพัก หรือ Pete is my classmate. พีทเป็นเพื่อนร่วมชั้น ก็ได้

ลองดูหน้าตาบทสนทนาหน่อย ว่าจะเป็นอย่างไร

ฝรั่งจอมสงสัยอาจถามว่า Are you working in the same department? ทั้งสองคนทำงานอยู่ในแผนกเดียวกันหรือ ถ้าใช่ ก็ตอบ Yes สั้น ๆ หรือจะเลียนประโยคคำถามเขาก็ได้ว่า Yes, we work in the same department. แต่ถ้า No ล่ะ No เฉย ๆ เห็นจะยาก เพราะฝรั่งคงอยากรู้ต่อว่าเพื่อนเราทำอะไร ก็อาจตอบง่าย ๆ ว่า No, Pete is sales staff. เปล่า พีทเป็นพนักงานฝ่ายขาย หรือเป็น accountant พนักงานบัญชี, assistant to manager ผู้ช่วยผู้จัดการ หรือ customer service staff พนักงานบริการหลังการขาย เป็นต้น เพื่อนกันควรรู้ไว้ ว่าตำแหน่งของเพื่อนภาษาอังกฤษเรียกว่าอะไร

ถ้าเพื่อนพูดภาษาอังกฤษได้ดี ก็ชมเพื่อนให้ฝรั่งฟังสักหน่อยจะเป็นไรไป เช่น Pete speaks English very well. He can speak Chinese, too. แถมยังพูดภาษาจีนได้ด้วย ฝรั่งก็มักจะตอบว่า Great! เยี่ยมเลย
