Tradition of marriage has been highly important for Thai lifestyles and cultures. It indicates maturity of persons who are getting married, with more responsibilities and are ready to have a family. They must be responsible for more lives they would create and must act as a leader of the family. In writer's opinion, marriage means a deep love of a man and a woman. They can feel for each other and they are ready to live together as husband and wife. So they have to get married. In other way, it can be said that getting married can cure sexual desire of human. To follow the social practice, their guardian must be acknowledged. With the social reasons, the Thai tradition of wedding is essential. The ceremony starts from the approach, then engagement, and finally the wedding. To be ceremonious, the ritual must be performed in the morning. The registration for marriage license must be carried out to make the wedding completed. The ceremony for dashing holy water and blessing is performed in the evening, at the same time as the welcome banquet for guests afterwards. To be economic, these activities can all be carried out in the morning, The welcome banquet can be hold at home, hotels, or clubs, depending on financial capability of the host.

The ritual wedding is important and appropriate because it represents prosperity of cultures and spirits of the society resulted from delicate mind of the perceptive Thai ancestors. Creatures naturally posses sexual desire and need to breed. Therefore, the difference between human and animals has to be made. At the same time, to suite Thai cultures and obey the law, the conditions for persons who are getting married are necessary.

Marriage and Weddings British Customs and Traditions The Wedding Ceremony of British.

When the guests arrive for a wedding the ushers' duty is to hand out the correct books, flowers and the order of service, they also ensure the guests are seated in the correct places. Traditionally, the side on which people sit depends on whether they are friends or family of the bride or of the groom. The front rows are generally reserved for close family or friends, with the very first seats reserved for the bridal party. However, in many ceremonies the bridal party will remain standing at the altar during the ceremony along with the bride and groom.

The groom and his best man wait inside the church for the arrival of the bride and her "entourage".

This entourage generally arrives in elegant cars or in horse-drawn coaches, specially hired for the occasion. The bride's entourage normally consists of the bride, the bride's father and all the various bridesmaids, maids of honour, flower girls and page boys that are intended to attend her.

The ushers and/or groomsmen escort the grandparents of the bride and groom to their seats.
The ushers and/or groomsmen escort the mother of the groom and mother of the bride to their seats.
The bridesmaids enter, escorted by the groomsmen.
The maid or matron of honour enters, either by herself or escorted by the best man.
The ringbearer enters.
The flower girl enters. (In some ceremonies, the ringbearer will accompany the flower girl.)
The bride then proceeds down the aisle, escorted by her father, to the accompaniment of music (usually the wedding march, often called "Here comes the bride"), and the ceremony starts.

During the ceremony the bride and groom make their marriage vows. Marriage vows are promises a couple makes to each other during a wedding ceremony. In Western culture, these promises have traditionally included the notions of affection ("love, comfort, keep"), faithfulness ("forsaking all others"), unconditionality ("for richer or for poorer", "in sickness and in health"), and permanence ("as long as we both shall live", "until death do us part"). Most wedding vows are taken from traditional religious ceremonies. Touching love poems or lyrics from a love song can be revised as wedding vows. Nowadays some couples choose to write their own vows, rather than relying on standard ones spoken by the celebrant (priest).

After the wedding ceremony, the bride, groom, officiant, and two witnesses generally go off to a side room to sign the wedding register. Without this the marriage is not legal and a wedding certificate cannot be issued.

Afterward, guests file out to throw flower petals, confetti, birdseed, or rice (uncooked) over the newly-married couple for good luck.

Finally, a photographic session ensues of the couple leaving the church.

Democrats claim DSI conspiracy

  • Published: 31/08/2010 at 12:00 AM

The Democrat Party claims a former executive of Messiah Business and Creation Co colluded with a former deputy chief of the Department of Special Investigation to make false accusations against the party in the case in which the party is alleged to have received illegal donations.

The Democrat Party claims a former executive of Messiah Business and Creation Co colluded with a former deputy chief of the Department of Special Investigation to make false accusations against the party in the case in which the party is alleged to have received illegal donations.

Donation drama: Messiah Business and Creation executive Prachuap Sangkhao, left, arrives at the Constitution Court yesterday to testify in the case in which the Democrat Party is accused of illegally receiving a 258 million baht donation from TPI Polene throughMr Prachuap’s company. The Democrat Party could be disbanded if proven guilty of accepting the donation. APICHIT JINAKUL

Lawyer Bundit Siripan, representing the Democrats, told the court yesterday that Prachuab Sangkhao, a former executive of Messiah Business and Creation, had "made a deal" with former DSI deputy chief Suchart Wong-anandchai to implicate the party. Pol Col Suchart is now an inspector-general at the Information and Communications Technology Ministry.

Mr Bundit asked Mr Prachuab about his meeting with Pol Col Suchart at the DSI office and questioned whether Pol Col Suchart persuaded him to work together against the Democrats.

Mr Bundit asked Mr Prachuab if he asked Pol Col Suchart to help redeem a house which he had mortgaged and was subject to foreclosure by a bank.

Mr Prachuab was one of three plaintiff witnesses for the Election Commission (EC) to take the stand in the third witness hearing at the Constitution Court yesterday.

The court also heard from Mr Prachuab's wife, Walailak, and Prachai Leophairatana, founder of TPI Polene Plc.

The focus of the Democrats' defence team was on Mr Prachuab.

The ruling party has been accused of accepting illicit donations amounting to 258million baht from TPI Polene, a cement giant founded by Mr Prachai, a businessman-turned-politician. TPI Polene is alleged to have given the Democrats the money through advertising agency Messiah Business and Creation in 2005, when Mr Prachuab ran the company.

The EC has accused the Democrats of violating the Political Party Act by failing to report the donation.

The money is believed to have been transferred to some members of the party, whose leader at the time was Banyat Bantadtan and its secretary-general was Pradit Phataraprasit.

The party faces dissolution if found guilty in the case.

Mr Bundit told the court during the cross-examination that Mr Prachuab was taken to a safe house in Pattaya where he was provided with protection by two police officers.

Mr Prachuab refused to respond to questions put to him by Mr Bundit. "I'd rather not answer," he told the court.

Mr Bundit then asked Mr Prachuab about his meeting with Chalerm Yubamrung, the chief of Puea Thai Party MPs, before March 20, 2009, when a censure debate was held in parliament targeting the Democrats-led coalition government.

Mr Prachuab responded that he would not answer the question for fear that he would be sued for defamation by Mr Chalerm.

Mr Bundit then disclosed information on the house which he said Mr Prachuab had mortgaged with Krung Thai Bank. The house is in tambon Bang Phud in Nonthaburi's Pak Kret district.

The defence lawyer said Pol Capt Atthakawee Khunpinit bought the house at an auction organised by the Legal Execution Department for about 4 million baht. Pol Capt Atthakawee is a close aide of Maj Gen Manoonkrit Roopkachorn, a former senate speaker.

Mr Bundit then asked if the money to buy the mortgaged house came from the Puea Thai Party. Mr Prachuab replied that he was not aware of the source of the money.

However, he did admit that he was now living back in the house and he planned to buy it from Pol Capt Atthakawee if and when his business became a success.

Mr Prachuab said Pol Capt Atthakawee bought the house because he felt sorry for him.

Mr Prachai was then called to the witness stand, where he told the court he had never met Mr Prachuab before.

He met him for the first time at the court, Mr Prachai said.

Mr Prachai said he had not made any donations to the Democrat Party and had only met Mr Banyat because he wanted his party to help push for amendments to certain legislation.

A fourth witness due to give evidence yesterday, Thongchai Dolsrichai, sought a postponement. Mr Thongchai is a cousin of former Democrat secretary-general Pradit Phataraprasit.

Sounds like the same kind of deal university students make when they want a better grade! If you do this for me now, I will do this for you later. So typical. Grow up and act like a responsible adult!

A device believed to be a grenade exploded outside the head office of the National Broadcasting Service (NBT) on Bangkok's Vibhavadi Rangsit road on Tuesday afternoon, acting government spokesman Panitan Wattanayagorn said.

The blast, which caused no injuries, occurred in front of the buildings housing the state-run NBT about 1.45pm. it damaged a van and four sedans.

The buildings house the NBT TV studios and the Public Relations Department.

Police said they believed it was the grenade launched from the Don Muang tollway.

"On circumstantial evidence it's likely to have been an M79," Mr Panitan said.

The station allowed the red-shirt United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) to host shows with government representatives.Prime Minister's Office Minister Ong-art Klapaiboon visited the scene and said later he did not think the attack had anything to do with NBT programming.

The capital has been under emergency rule since April 7 in response to anti-government protests led by the UDD, in which 91 people died and about 1,900 were injured in clashes between protesters and the army.

A handful of explosions in recent weeks have unnerved the Bangkok residents, who are still recovering from the deadly street protests in April and May.

A grenade blast last Thursday -- the second in a month at the King Power duty-free shopping complex -- injured a security guard and ensured that Bangkok will be the last province kept under emergency rule, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva confirmed.

On July 30, a grenade hidden in a plastic rubbish bag injured a man in his 30s who was scavenging for scrap.

A man linked to the red-shirt demonstrations was arrested over the explosion and police said the suspect, 23-year-old Sorathien Singkanya, admitted that the grenade belonged to him but had denied planting it himself.

That attack came less than a week after a small bomb exploded at a Bangkok bus stop, killing one person and injuring 10.

On March 15, an M79 grenade was fired into the compound of the First Infantry Regiment on Vibhavadi Rangsit road, injuring two soldiers.

The gallery below shows the damage caused by the grenade attack in front of the NBT station on Aug 31, 2010.

Look like Bangkok will be like Southern parts of Thailand. Where daily killing has been going on for 6 years now, it is none stop. This will let government kept Emergency Decree in Bangkok for long time.

Thaksin 'still healthy', Kasit 'not on the hunt'

  • Published: 31/08/2010 at 04:51 PM
  • Online news: Local News

Fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is still strong and healthy, former prime minister Somchai Wongsawat said on Tuesday.

Mr Somchai, the brother of Thaksin's former wife Khunying Potjaman, said the former Thai leader called him on the telephone to wish him a happy birthday when he turned 63 two days ago. Thaksin was still strong and healthy, not seriously sick as rumoured. He was staying far away from Thailand and not in this region, as was suggested by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, Mr Somchai said. He said Thaksin was staying silent at this time because he wanted the country to be at peace and did not want to become a political issue. Asked about Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya's visit to Montenegro, Mr Somchai said it would be good if the visit was truly to tighten relations between the two countries. The job of hunting a fugitive belonged with police, he added. Deputy Prime Minister overseeing security Suthep Thaugsuban this morning denied reports Mr Kasit was in Montenegro to hunt down the ousted premier. “Mr Kasit is not visiting there on a hunt" for the fugitive politician as alleged, Mr Suthep said. The foreign minister would present the facts about Thaksin to Montenegro because the authorities there might have heard only one side of the story from Thaksin, he said. Thaksin is now a citizen of Montenegro and has a major investment there.

I think for a peaceful future of Thailand Thaksin should stay in Montenegro for the rest of his life. Montenegro is a very nice country for rich people, it has beautiful beaches and Islands for the rich. Thaksin will find a lot of good friends there.

My Travel Story :Giant Dragon Descendants Museum

The newly opened Dragon Descendants Museum in Suphan Buri Province is the latest attractions in the province located 200 km northwest of Bangkok. The 300 million baht museum is built in a shape of a huge fiberglass cloud dragon spraying water measuring 135m long, 35m high and 18 m wide adjacent to the city pillar shrine. It is beautifully and elegantly constructed and the brightly coloured dragon looks alive as if it just descended from heaven to usher in the New Year.

Using the latest interactive computer technology, it focuses on 5000 years of Chinese history and the migration of Chinese clans from China to neighbouring countries such as Thailand, where they established their roots and successful business empires. Inside the Dragon’s body, there is a total of 20 multimedia rooms and each room tells an exciting story about the history of the Chinese civilization which goes all the way to the creation of the planet earth to the emperors of the different dynasties.

The heavenly beast is visible from a distance in the city and it took 10 years of planning.

- Hi, Harry. How are you? {ไฮ แฮหรี่ ฮาวอ๊าร์หยู่}
- Hi, Tony. I’m fine. And you? {ไฮ โทหนี่ อัมฟายน์ แอ่นดิ้ว}

Are you working in the same department? Yes, we work in the same department. No, Pete is sales staff.

Pete speaks English very well. He can speak Chinese, too.
