วันหนึ่งขณะเดินกับเพื่อน ก็บังเอิญมาเจอแฮรี่เข้า เราเริ่มทักทายตามประสาคนรู้จัก

- Hi, Tony. I’m fine. And you? {ไฮ โทหนี่ อัมฟายน์ แอ่นดิ้ว}

แล้วเราจะปล่อยเพื่อนที่มาด้วยยืนเงอะงะตาปริบๆ อยู่ได้อย่างไร อย่าให้ฝรั่งเป็นฝ่ายเริ่มแนะนำตัวกับเพื่อนเรา เพราะมันดูไม่ค่อยดี เราต้องเริ่มแนะนำเอง ในฐานะที่เป็นคนที่รู้จักคนทั้งคู่ วิธีแนะนำเพื่อนให้รู้จักกันก็ง่ายสุด ๆ ไม่ต้องยุ่งยากขนาด Let me introduce… ขอแนะนำคนโน้นคนนี้ให้รู้จักหรอก เอาสั้น ๆ แต่ได้เรื่องไว้ก่อนตามนี้เลย

แล้วทั้งสองคนก็จะจับมือทักทายกัน แค่นี้แหละ พอแล้ว
ถ้าอยากจะให้ข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับเพื่อนเพิ่มเติมก็อาจบอกว่า Pete is my colleague. พีทเป็นเพื่อนร่วมงาน หรือ Pete is my room-mate. พีทเป็นเพื่อนร่วมห้องพัก หรือ Pete is my classmate. พีทเป็นเพื่อนร่วมชั้น ก็ได้

ลองดูหน้าตาบทสนทนาหน่อย ว่าจะเป็นอย่างไร

Tony: Hi, Harry. How are you?

ฝรั่งจอมสงสัยอาจถามว่า Are you working in the same department? ทั้งสองคนทำงานอยู่ในแผนกเดียวกันหรือ ถ้าใช่ ก็ตอบ Yes สั้น ๆ หรือจะเลียนประโยคคำถามเขาก็ได้ว่า Yes, we work in the same department. แต่ถ้า No ล่ะ No เฉย ๆ เห็นจะยาก เพราะฝรั่งคงอยากรู้ต่อว่าเพื่อนเราทำอะไร ก็อาจตอบง่าย ๆ ว่า No, Pete is sales staff. เปล่า พีทเป็นพนักงานฝ่ายขาย หรือเป็น accountant พนักงานบัญชี, assistant to manager ผู้ช่วยผู้จัดการ หรือ customer service staff พนักงานบริการหลังการขาย เป็นต้น เพื่อนกันควรรู้ไว้ ว่าตำแหน่งของเพื่อนภาษาอังกฤษเรียกว่าอะไร

ถ้าเพื่อนพูดภาษาอังกฤษได้ดี ก็ชมเพื่อนให้ฝรั่งฟังสักหน่อยจะเป็นไรไป เช่น Pete speaks English very well. He can speak Chinese, too. แถมยังพูดภาษาจีนได้ด้วย ฝรั่งก็มักจะตอบว่า Great! เยี่ยมเลย

My name is Poramate Wattanakulchai, I graduated in business administration from Thamasat university in February 2001. My major is marketing since this is the field in which I would like to specialize.

In the university, I made very good use of my time both in studying, and in extra-curriculum activities. I used to be the president of Japanese club. We taught Japanese to the student members who needed Japanese improvement. Besides, I was a member of the tekwando club and represented the university team in the private inter-university matches. I also have other activities and hobbies such as basketball, swimming, and so on.

Since then, I have passed typing examinations. My speed for English is forty words per minute and fifty words per minute for Thai. I do confidently believe that this added qualification will be very helpful in typing statements and sales report.The attached resume will enable you to investigate my working experience, training program and customer service oriented that I had in the past. Besides, my selling and marketing experiences are also included.

My marketing experience has provided me with the opportunity to develop my skill as a problem solver and negotiator. การติดต่อธุรกิจไม่ได้จำกัดอยู่แต่เฉพาะในการสนทนาทางโทรศัพท์หรือการเจรจาธุรกิจเท่านั้น กิจกรรมอื่นๆ เช่น การเข้าสังคมในรูปแบบต่างๆตั้งแต่การพบปะทักทายไปจนถึงการรับประทานอาหาร การไปดูมหรสพ และการเล่นกีฬา ฯลฯ ก็ถือเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของการติดต่อธุรกิจ เพราะมีผลทั้งทางตรงและทางอ้อมต่อการติดต่อธุรกิจอย่างหลีกเลี่ยงไม่ได้ ด้วยเหตุนี้ความรู้เกี่ยวกับประโยคคำพูดที่ใช้ในการเข้าสังคมในแวดวงธุรกิจจึงเป็นสิ่งจำเป็นและมีความสำคัญเท่าๆกับประโยคคำพูดที่ใช้ในการติดต่อธุรกิจดังที่ได้เสนอไปแล้ว เมื่อเริ่มการเข้าสังคม สิ่งแรกที่ต้องปฏิบัติคือการกล่าวทักทาย ในกรณีที่เพิ่งพบกันเป็นครั้งแรกและต่างฝ่ายต่างไม่รู้จักกันมาก่อน เช่น ในงานเลี้ยงสังสรรค์

ซึ่งอาจจะตามด้วยประโยคแนะนำตนเองก่อนแล้วต่อด้วยประโยคใดประโยคหนึ่งดังต่อไปนี้

แบบไม่เป็นทางการ

Hello. Hi. How are you?

และอาจต่อด้วยประโยคแนะนำตนเองและประโยคใดประโยคหนึ่งดังต่อไปนี้

Good/Nice/Glad to meet you. Pleased to meet you. Good/Nice to have you with us.
(ในกรณีที่ผู้พูดเป็นเจ้าภาพ) Good/Nice to be here. (ในกรณีที่ผู้พูดเป็นแขก)
